Signed autographed original photograph of American boxer Gene Tunney (Boxing Heavyweight Champion 1926-1928)This photo has been signed and personally inscribed with the inscription reading:
"To Bernard with many happy thoughts of Miami, Gene Tunney Sept 26-1926". It is unknown who Bernard is in regards to this personal message.
This photo is signed by Tunney and dated Sept 26-1926 which is 3 days after becoming the Heavyweight Champion against Jack Dempsey (first meeting). With Jack Dempsey favored to win the match, Gene Tunney won after 10 rounds by unanimous decision. On the rear of this framed photo noted by the previous owner/seller is "3 days after K'O Dempsey". At the front of the framed photo is a sticker of "Superior Galleries" which once owned this collectible item.
On September 22, 1927, Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey had a rematch, which became known as "The Long Count". This became a very controversial fight which Gene Tunney won and kept his Heavyweight Champion title.
